MARCY MEDINA
COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER

Each month, “The Person Behind the Nametag’’ introduces you to a Westside Family Health Center Team Member. (Click here to read about others.)

This month it’s Marcy Medina, a pediatric Community Health Worker who has worked at WFHC for nearly 11 years.

What do you love about your job? The kids.

People who know you would be surprised to hear: That I’m not ready to have kids right now.

What concerns you most about the health care profession? That parents don’t bring in their children for care and shots. That really bugs me. I give parents a hard time when they get to the clinic. Nicely, of course.

What’s your ideal vacation? Going to Disney World again but never in July.

Are you a morning person or a night person? Night, definitely night.

Halloween or Christmas? Oh, God (long pause) I would say Christmas…(long pause) I would say Halloween. I like both.

Broccoli or cabbage? Cabbage.

Smooth peanut butter or chunky peanut butter? Neither. I don’t like peanut butter.

Flour tortillas or corn tortillas? Neither. It’s funny but I don’t like tortillas.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were younger? To talk more with my parents.

What’s the last movie you saw? Mad Money with Queen Latifah.

Thumbs up or thumbs down? Thumbs up.

The greatest invention of all time is: My Crocs. They are the best thing that ever happened to me. It’s hard to find comfortable shoes. These are the best.

What keeps you awake at night? Thinking of what I have to do at work the next day.

Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? My husband, Junior. He’s my best friend.

What do you consider your most admirable quality? I’m a loyal friend.

What do you hope to do that you haven’t done yet? I would love to become an RN. I’m halfway there. I’m just (long pause) lazy.

What do you wish you could do better than you do now? Be better at math. I think it’s one of the things that scares me about going back to school. Of course I can add and subtract and all that, but that’s not one of my strengths.

Describe your perfect day. Not to hit the snooze button so many times, get up on the first try, no traffic, get to work in 15 minutes, find all-day parking across the street from work. That’s my perfect day.

What’s the best gift you ever received? My camera.

What was your last impulse buy? Christmas tree bags. They’re these bags that you can put the tree in and throw it out so it’s not so messy. I found them on sale. I’m so excited.

How many did you buy? Eight.

What’s the best thing about L.A.? It’s not the traffic. I’d say it’s the weather.

Least favorite household chore: Cleaning the bathroom.

Always in your fridge: Coke and water.

Favorite food: Pozole.

Who do you sing to in the shower or in your car? Lately it’s been Keyshia Cole...not that I can sing!
